                                   The Need for Shabbat

"Every person needs to take one day away.  A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence.  Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”

- Maya Angelou

Kabbalat Shabbat Services

The second Friday of each month Desert Outreach Synagogue holds Shabbat services at UUCOD. The sanctuary is filled with joyful music and ruach, as Rabbi Jules is joined on the bimah by Rabbi Chazzan Danny Maseng and cantorial soloist Sarah Lonsert. Musical Director Chip Prince leads our choir, as we celebrate the blessing of Shabbat, together in community. Join us on November 14th at 7:00 PM for our next Shabbat Service.

High Holy Days

We celebrate the High Holy Days with awe and reverence as we look inward, acknowledging our blessings and challenges. Each year brings new opportunities to honor our traditions and rituals, and plan for a bountiful, healthy New Year.

Saturday Morning Sponsored Services

Desert Outreach Synagogue members are invited to sponsor a special Saturday Shabbat service honoring B'nei mitzvot, birthdays, anniversaries and weddings.  Sponsorship costs vary based on the added elements of the service. For more information, fees, and scheduling, please email info@my-dos.org

Shabbat Dinners

Experience the joy of sharing Shabbat with others in your home. Hosts are only responsible for the entree. Dinner guests (4-6) would bring all the side dishes and desserts! Learn about each other while sharing  Shabbat, strengthen bonds and initiate new friendships. Please click here to sign up as a Shabbat dinner host!

Havdalah at Home

We look forward to beginning Chavurim style Havdalah observances in members' homes accompanied by light bites and wine. Havdalah marks the end of Shabbat, and our re-entry into the new week. Learn more about the brief Havdalah service in this video by clicking here. For more information email info@my-dos.org.

Holidays

Our observance of well-loved holiday traditions is a feature at Desert Outreach Synagogue. Chanukah, Purim, Shavuot, Sukkot and Simchat Torah offer us the opportunity to draw close in celebration of our history and future! More information will be made available in our weekly newsletter.  Sign up here to receive it.
