                                     Our History and Vision

Desert Outreach Synagogue was founded in 2016 with 14 people in my living room.  I shared my vision of starting a new “temple without walls” that would be open and inclusive of all.   So many Jews  have been left out, disenfranchised, excluded and turned away for many reasons.  DOS is a home for everyone!

Our first service was Rosh Hashanah morning in the Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert with a packed ballroom.  The 2016 High Holy Days were incredibly memorable and meaningful.  Our first Shabbat service was held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rancho Mirage, where we currently meet.

Desert Outreach Synagogue aims to gather people to worship, study, and embrace our traditions. We are an open, affirming, inclusive congregation.  We support one another through difficult times and work towards social justice for all. We are committed to providing a space for non-conforming Jews who want to connect with their Jewish heritage and culture,  and for interfaith families who need a place to call home. Our egalitarian atmosphere invites participation and dialogue.

Here, the creative meets the alternative, and blends with the traditional. At Desert Outreach Synagogue, you will experience services that are uplifting and inspiring, filled with amazing music and relevant sermons.  Come join us and discover your heartfelt Jewish community!

With gratitude,

Rabbi Dr. Jules King

Our overarching goal is to attract, engage, and retain diverse congregants by offering a compelling, accessible, meaningful experience.
